Lazy E Training Center
The Lazy E Training Center was programmed to encompass a complete 640-acre training and rehabilitation facility. This included ten 40-stall training barns with living quarters, laundry, offices, 12' x 12' stalls, wash, feed, and vet areas. A Physiology facility with 2 submerged treadmills, overhead walker, holding stalls and wash stalls. Outside walk rings and round pens surround the 5/8 mile banked track, 1/2 mile and 1/4 mile chutes, and six-horse walkers. In addition a 240-acre rehabilitation/ layover station serving up to 180 horses, visiting trainer and grooms was designed.
Commissioned to provide master planning and design services to this 300-acre quarter horse broodmare and show training facility, Stan Gralla Architects designed a new 8-stall barn that utilized old historic bricks for the aisle paving and timber beams from historic buildings. A new 60' x 120' covered arena connects the barn by a covered breezeway and includes an overhead walker.
All facilities are designed to be sensitive to the existing appearance of the 2-story plantation style residence.
Iron Rose Ranch
One of the most unique additions to the ranch is the curved Drive-Through Barn. Sitting in the shadow of Mount Sopris, this one-of-a-kind structure is more of a work of art than a barn. Inspired by several existing bridges on the ranch and the historic architecture of Colorado's past, this barn sits along one of the many internal roads and connects the private residence with the working facilities on the ranch. As one drives over the wood and steel bridge structure, custom designed heavy timber trusses loom overhead. A restored antique hay truck sits in a glass enclosure and can be viewed while driving through the curved barn.
